When you speak French, does it sound like that? We have friends. Or does it sound like
this? We have friends. The problem: you don't make the connections to have
fluent pronunciation in French. Liaison is the one-syllable pronunciation of the
usually unpronounced word-final consonant with the initial vowel of the following word.
Bindings are obligatory in several contexts. We start with the verb group.
The connection is obligatory between the pronouns, subject, complement and the verb, as well as between
two pronouns which follow one another. Small example: we received several gifts. So you see
here we have the S with the vowel A. We continue with the noun group. Here the connection is obligatory
between the determiner and the noun which accompanies it or with the adjective which precedes this noun. Another
example: friends of my friends are my friends. So you see here between the determiner and the noun there is
a connection. In the prepositional group, the connection is also obligatory between a
preposition and the word which follows provided of course that it has only one syllable as in
the following example I will go up to see her in an hour you see here the S of in with the U of
a. In the adverbial group, we also make the connection between the adverb and the adjective that it
modifies unless it is an adverb in MENT. For example: Raymond is a very honest person
you see here it's very honest the connection is also obligatory in many expressions
that is to say expressions which are fixed, these are words which we always find together and
also in certain compound words for example she was more and more worried so you
see here more and more eh it's a group of words that we often find together so
we make the connection between the S and the E to find out more on connections watch
the following video to improve your French pronunciation next time.
